Ability to Change File Type

I often represent clients for years where they go from buyer to landlord to seller to buyer, etc.  I am able to duplicate their file but I am not able to change the file type from buyer, seller, landlord, tenant.  If the original file is type landlord/tenant then the option to assign a role of buyer/seller is not available.  So we need to be able to change the file type of a file.
