Issue:
Here's a quick summary of the Mac issue that comes up about once a month: the user will click Upload Document, select the files, then click Open, and will be taken back to the document page with nothing uploading or signs of anything.

What's Causing it:

This issue came up twice yesterday and luckily I was able to do a lot of testing with them without them being a grumpy-gills. On the second case, I think I may have found the reason.

The problem lies in the folder name the user is pulling from. The folder name can not have a space at the beginning or end of the folder name, so "Folder" is ok, " Folder" is not ok, and "Folder " is not ok. Also, any kind of special character within the folder name may through it off as well, but not as often, like "123 Fake Street #123"

The folder hierarchy plays a key role in this as well. By this I mean, if the top most folder has a space in the folder name, it'll affect all of the folders that are within it. Here's a basic diagram of it:

"Folder with a Space at the end "

---> "Listings"

--------> "File 1"

--------> "File 2"

---------------> "Escrow Docs"

----------------------> "randompdf.pdf"

----------------------> "otherpdf.pdf"

So in this example, no matter what folder you went in to, or which docs you tried to upload, you wouldn't be able to upload them because the folder at the very top has a space at the end of its name.

Lastly, the issue isn't browser specific, but Safari seems to be much worse than Chrome or FireFox. On my screen share, the user couldn't use Safari at all, but Chrome worked 100% of the time. But in my testing, both Safari and Chrome worked only 1/2 the time.

Quick note I forgot to mention that Ryan reminded me of. This isn't a SkySlope issue, its a Mac issue. I tried uploading documents to both DropBox and AirDrop and neither worked when there was a space in the folder name.

SOLUTION:

Simply go to the the folder the person is trying to upload from, rename it and make sure there isn't a space or special character in the folder name. If that particular folder doesn't have the space or special character, check the folder that it is in, and keep going up the ladder till you find it.
