How to make writable field mandadory

I sent a document out with a field to complete. Docusign can make this mandatory. It appears digisign doesn't, so my clients clicked through the field without typing in the needed information.

Would it be helpful if the clients received an "incomplete" notification once they finish but haven't filled all necessary sections?
To confirm, would it be beneficial if the agents/admin could make these fields required instead of leaving them optional?
